Details
This counter treats each user-perceived character as one character, including many emoji and combined emoji sequences. Before counting, separated Korean jamo are normalized into composed syllables. The with-spaces total includes ordinary spaces, tabs and line breaks; the without-spaces total removes whitespace. Word count uses whitespace-separated groups, while paragraphs are separated by blank lines. These rules make the numbers predictable, but a publishing platform may use a different definition.
Byte totals describe storage size rather than visible length. In UTF-8, basic Latin letters and digits normally use one byte, many accented letters use two, Korean syllables use three and emoji often use four or more. EUC-KR is included for older Korean forms and systems; it cannot represent every modern character. Unsupported characters are listed and excluded from that total, so do not use the EUC-KR number unless the destination explicitly requests it.
Some forms store one visible line break as carriage return plus line feed, or CRLF, which counts as two code units. If this counter and the destination disagree, switch the line-break option between one and two characters. You can check the whole text or split sections by blank lines or every line and assign each section its own target. Text is processed only in this browser tab and is not uploaded or saved.
Frequently asked questions
Should I count spaces or exclude them?
Follow the destination’s instructions. When none are given, check its own counter before submitting.
Why does another site show a different number?
Line-break handling and emoji rules are common causes. Try the two-character CRLF option.
Is my text uploaded or saved?
No. Counting happens in this browser tab, and the text is not stored.
